Our past activities have been recognized from a variety of perspectives, and we have received a number of awards from government agencies. Here are some of the awards we have received, including the Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award.

4th Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award

On 15 February 2012, the 4th Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award was presented by Yukio Edano, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Award is one of the most prestigious of the Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Awards, and was awarded in recognition of the engineering activities that have been carried out by the company to date, which have advanced and supported monozukuri.

The reason for this award is that the value of the technological development and product development in the area of activity and its dissemination activities in the company’s past activities in monozukuri were highly evaluated. We believe that this is the result and outcome of the concerted activities of all our employees, our numerous customers with whom we have had deep discussions on the state of manufacturing in Japan, and all those involved in support of our activities.

This is also the result of collaboration and support from users, support organisations and others. We would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to all of you for this award.

What is the Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award?

The Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Awards is an award system established by the Japanese Government in 2005 and is implemented every two years. The aim of the award is to “award prizes to mid-career personnel who play a central role in manufacturing and production sites, skilled personnel who have supported traditional and cultural skills, and young people who will lead the future, in order to steadily inherit and further develop monozukuri, which has supported the development of Japanese industry and culture and contributed greatly to the creation of a rich national lifestyle”. The awards are presented to personnel of each generation involved in manufacturing who are recognised as particularly outstanding. The award ceremony and celebration were held at the National Institute for Policy Studies University in Roppongi, Tokyo. After a congratulatory address by Yukio Edano, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the award was presented on stage by Minister Edano, and a commemorative photograph was taken.

About the Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award mark

The motif is based on the tradition that Iyanagi-no-Mikoto and Iyanami-no-Mikoto, described in the oldest book in Japan, Kojiki, stirred up the land with the ‘Ame no Nuhoko’, which is said to have marked the beginning of Japan (= the beginning of monozukuri). It symbolises the spirit of the producers who carry on the tradition of monozukuri (= nation-building). The central element is the ‘Heavenly Numenoko (Engineer)’ itself, while the half-moon shape surrounding it is the ‘Earth (=Japanese land)’, expressing the way in which it has taken root in Japan and contributed to the formation of an affluent national life. The blue colouring evokes the image of ‘advanced products and technology’ and ‘the spirit of supporting culture and tradition’.

Selected as “IoT Promotion Lab Finalist” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

The IoT Promotion Lab in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is an organisation established under the IoT Promotion Consortium with the aim of building a system to develop and demonstrate technologies related to IoT promotion and to create and promote new business models through participation and collaboration between industry, academia and government, and to identify and select individual IoT projects and provide corporate support in terms of collaboration, funding and regulation, as well as developing the environment for large-scale social implementation, including regulatory reform and system formation.

 In the 4th Advanced IoT Project Selection Conference Problem-Solving IoT Lab Selection in 2017, our company was selected as a finalist and awarded under the theme of manufacturing. The themes presented by the Company are as follows.

What is the IoT Promotion Lab?

As a measure of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the IoT Promotion Consortium was established as a democratically-led organisation to respond to the IoT/Big Data/Artificial Intelligence era and to promote its utilisation in industry, academia and government beyond the boundaries of companies and industries. In order to create new IoT business models and identify and foster IoT platformers to drive new growth, in addition to short-term project support and business matching, activities will be expanded to include medium- and long-term project support, regional and global cooperation, and measures will organically link the activities of each. Good Design Award

Our production simulator GD.findi has now won the 2016 Good Design Award.

The award recognises the user interface, which can be executed intuitively by manufacturing engineers. The company will use this award as an opportunity to actively promote the use of design in manufacturing and to enhance its brand image.

Award-winning product.

GD.findi is a cloud service that provides production simulation for the design of production lines in the manufacturing industry. Production simulation is an essential technology in the increasingly complex manufacturing industry, as it can virtualise the production line and guide it to the optimum design. However, conventional production simulation requires special programming and can only be used by simulation experts. As a result, engineers who should be using production simulation directly were unable to do so, and had to outsource the work to specialists. This approach leads to various problems on the production floor.

GD.findi is characterised by the fact that it makes production simulation, which was previously intended for specialists, widely available to manufacturing engineers. Specifically, we have invented a new way of designing the production processes and plant layouts that make up a production line. Here, manufacturing engineers can use the simulation through the cloud and design their own production lines.

What is the Good Design Award?

The Good Design Award is Japan’s only comprehensive design evaluation and recommendation campaign, originating from the Good Design Product Selection System established in 1957. Over the past 60 years, the Good Design Awards have been developed as a movement to improve Japanese industry and lifestyle culture through design, with a total of more than 45,000 awards received. Today, it is a global design award in which many companies and organisations from Japan and abroad participate, and the ‘G Mark’, the symbol of the Good Design Award, is widely known as a symbol of excellent design. 

Evaluation comments from the jury

In systems that exist to make work more efficient, there is a large gap between the improvement of work and the use of the system. Because of this gulf, the effects of systemisation are often not fully realised. In general, it has not been easy to utilise production simulation effectively in the manufacturing industry, as it requires special programming and modelling. To bridge the gap between the user and the system, the system is a cloud service and the user interface is an excellent idea, as it allows the simulation of production systems to be executed and verified intuitively, without the need for programming knowledge. If engineering systems, which used to require advanced knowledge and environmental requirements, can be implemented by anyone, anytime, anywhere, various problem-solving styles can be expected. This time, the system has been evaluated as a user interface that can be executed intuitively by manufacturing engineers. This is the result of the concerted efforts of all our employees, our numerous customers with whom we have had deep discussions about the state of manufacturing in Japan, and all those involved in supporting our activities, and I believe that this is a gift LEXER RESEARCH Inc. can be proud of.
