Simultaneous evaluation and optimization of economic and environmental impact by process simulation

In order to decouple economic efficiency and environmental responsiveness, a mechanism to simultaneously assess environmental impact and economic efficiency through the design of business systems is effective. The virtual technology we have been developing is to cyber-enable on-site business activities. By designing business systems and business activities there and quantitatively evaluating them with a production simulator, it is possible to derive indicators of economic efficiency as well as environmental impact.

Using this mechanism, it is possible to determine how various parameters related to business systems and business activities affect environmental load and economic efficiency, and through various changes and adjustments to the set of these parameters, it is possible to obtain the conditions for acquiring environmental efficiency without economic burden. The result is that, through optimization, we can obtain the conditions under which we can acquire environmentality without economic burden. In other words, through optimization, environmental decoupling can be achieved.

Calculation of activity by process simulation

GD.findi, a production simulator we have developed, is a technology that enables virtual factories. It is capable of calculating the flow of goods, movement of utilities, and organizational behavior as quantitative activity quantities, using business processes, business resources, and facility layouts as inputs.

The amount of activity here can be positioned as primary data for the calculation of CO2 emissions. In other words, by determining the amount of materials involved in the manufacture of each product and the amount of time (activity) involved by each facility in the production process, CO2 emissions per product can be calculated in conjunction with the CO2 emissions intensity.
